Another member of the Canucks core is locked up, this time for six more years.

Vancouver announced Friday that they have signed Ryan Kesler to a US$30-million contract extension that will keep him through the 2015-16 season.

The 25-year-old centre was slated to become a restricted free agent this summer.

“Ryan Kesler has excelled as a two-way player and in his role as an alternate captain," said GM Mike Gillis in a press release. "Ryan has showcased his ability to perform under extreme pressure and we are looking forward to continuing to see Ryan develop into one of the league’s premier players.”

Kesler has 21 goals, 45 assists, and 66 points so far this season, his sixth with the same team that drafted him in 2003.

He is also making $1.75 million this season in the final year of his three-year contract.
