It's been a tough spell for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Five matches equalling five defeats, while setting a new club record for consecutive MLS losses. In fact, things haven't been going well for the 'Caps since the summer solstice on June 20.

Through the last 15 matches, Vancouver has just three victories and managed a paltry 12 points out of a possible 45 available. According to the club, things are peachy keen and it's been hard on the road, but just wait until the team plays the next four at home - things will be different.

It's time for the Whitecaps to put up or shut up. Time for Vancouver to quit making excuses about being on the road, and go out and win some games at home because if the 'Caps don't, they will be in danger of missing the playoffs.

With such a disastrous summer, it's hard not to question Martin Rennie's mid-season personnel decisions. Scottish international Kenny Miller has just one goal in eight games with the 'Caps and doesn't look like he's going to break out of his scoring slump any time soon. Barry Robson looked tremendous on July 18 against the Los Angeles Galaxy and the following match against the San Jose Earthquakes, but hasn't looked the same since.

The Whitecaps' losses seem to show this squad doesn't have any chemistry whatsoever on-or-off the field.

Frustrated fans look disgustingly at an arm-waving Barry Robson and dislike the verbal abuse he presents to other players on his team. Sources from within the club hint that there has been discontent amongst some veteran players and the new arrivals.

Whatever the case, turning things around starts as soon as this weekend when Vancouver plays host to Colorado at BC Place Stadium. The 'Caps have beaten the Rapids twice this year, and they have won just two road games this season. Colorado is ripe for the picking, perfect for the Whitecaps to get back on track.

A win would put the Whitecaps four points up on FC Dallas for that final playoff spot in the MLS Western Conference standings with each team having four matches remaining.

The 'Caps currently control their own destiny, but with each slip-up, things get a lot tighter and a lot more pressure is piled onto them.

It's clear this is not the same cohesive team that started the season with seven wins and 28 points through 14 matches, not to mention a clean sheet record through the first five.

Despite the current struggle, Rennie needs to get things sorted before this team ends up watching the MLS playoffs from their couches.
