THE BUZZ:
Casey Printers will again don the Lions starting quarterback costume Saturday in an attempt to get his first win with B.C. this season. The Halloween matchup and the second last week of the CFL regular season will showcase another critical Western Division matchup as the Calgary Stampeders play at B.C. Place.
PLAYOFF SCENARIO:
If Calgary wins or ties, they clinch a home playoff game. If B.C. wins, they clinch a playoff berth, but if they lose, they will need both Winnipeg and Hamilton to lose their games as well in order to be guaranteed a playoff spot heading into Week 19.
QB NEWS:
Although Buck Pierce threw a few times at practice this week, Printers will get the start and will look to rebound from last week’s disappointing overtime loss in which he threw the gamelosing interception. Despite the gaffe, the former CFL MVP completed 19 of 31 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns in an impressive first game with B.C. this year.
COACH TALK:
“They’re getting all healthy and getting better, you know Casey’s getting most of the work, which obviously is good for him,” said coach Wally Buono, regarding his quarterback. “It’s a situation that we’re not in a big hurry to have to resolve, because 24 hours, 48 hours is a long time from now.”
NO DOUBLE M:
Martell Mallett will probably not see any action Saturday after sitting out practice Thursday. A.J. Harris, who rushed for 26 yards on three carries last week, will take his spot as the starting running back.
WR RACE:
Saturday’s game will feature two wide receivers that sit amongst the top five in receiving yards. B.C.’s Geroy Simon is fourth with 1116 yards, just 45 behind the CFL lead, while Calgary’s Jeremaine Copeland is fifth with 1078 yards.
ADDITIONS:
The Lions announced earlier this week that they have added three players – defensive backs Jamar Love and Stanley Franks, and import running back Brad Lester – to their practice roster.
LAST MEETING:
B.C. has not fared well against the Stampeders so far this season, dropping both meetings against the Cowtown boys. Their last defeat to Calgary came during week 13, when Stamps QB Henry Burris threw for one touchdown and ran for two in a 27-18 drubbing.
