The Calgary Stampeders are looking for a new president and the B.C. Lions may have found theirs.
Scott Ackles was announced Monday as the general manager of the 2011 Grey Cup festival in Vancouver, a role he had when Vancouver hosted the Canadian Football League championship in 2005.
The Lions have been without a president since Ackles' Canadian Football Hall of Fame father Bob died in July 2008. Business vice-president George Chayka and head coach and general manager Wally Buono have led the organization since then.
Scott Ackles was the Lions' vice-president of operations before joining the Stampeders in March 2007 as senior vice-president of operations. He became Stamps' president on Dec. 12, 2007.
"My family is excited to move back to our hometown and I couldn't be more thrilled to be involved in my third Grey Cup festival," Scott Ackles said in a Lions' news release.
The 99th Grey Cup in 2011 will be the first at B.C. Place Stadium after the half-billlion-dollar installation of a retractable roof. The Lions will play outdoors in 2010 at a temporary stadium on the site of their original home, Empire Stadium.
