Van, Chicago mayors make friendly bet

By BOB MACKIN, 24 HOURS

The unofficial start of the Vancouver Canucks' second round series against the Chicago Blackhawks was signaled hours before face-off when mayors of the two cities announced their wager.

If the Canucks win, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley pledges to send 2016 Summer Olympic bid souvenirs, hot dogs, sangria, red zinfandel, candy, cheese and marinara sauce, cupcakes and Red Felt Beer from Goose Island Brewery.

Should the Blackhawks win, Mayor Gregor Robertson will send Daley Purdy's chocolates, B.C. smoked salmon, Que Pasa tortilla chips, Pacific Rim dried morels, vegetarian blueberry sauce, Happy Planet Juice, Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics souvenirs plus City of Vancouver umbrellas in the Canucks' blue and green.

Robertson is co-founder of organic juice maker Happy Planet.
