Roberto Luongo wants contract certainty by the time next season starts.
The Vancouver Canucks' $7 million ace goaltender -- who was roundly criticized for giving up seven goals to the Chicago Blackhawks in Monday's season-ending 7-5 playoff loss -- has one season remaining on his contract. He could be an unrestricted free agent in summer 2010.
"Whatever happens this summer, there's one thing for sure: it's not going to be talked about during the season," Luongo said Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Swedish rental-centre Mats Sundin began the second annual guessing game about his career status.
"My future in the NHL? I don't even know myself," Sundin said. "Last summer obviously I didn't know whether or not I was going to play anymore, I am definitely going to take my time to make a good decision this summer."
After his 13th season as a Toronto Maple Leaf, and after nine months of indecision, Sundin finally signed with the Canucks for $5.6 million after the global economy collapsed and before Christmas.
"It was nothing I regretted, I felt very fortunate to get a chance to play again in the playoffs," said Sundin, who had 28 points in half a regular season and eight in the playoffs.
If he does play next season, don't expect him to wear Sweden's three-crown jersey at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
"My last game for the national team was when we won the final in Torino," Sundin said.
