THE BUZZ: It was the Craig Anderson show Saturday afternoon in Colorado as the Avalanche goaltender recorded his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the winless Canucks.
NET NUMBERS: Clearly the difference maker, Anderson made 35 saves to stymie Canucks shooters, who also missed the net 12 times. Luongo, on the other hand, was relatively solid -compared to the season opener- stopping 24 of 27 shots.
SIN BIN: It was another day of Canucks parading to the penalty box as they were shorthanded six times, while giving up two powerplay tallies against. When Vancouver got the man-advantages though, they failed to convert on all three of their opportunities.
FIRST STRIKE: Although Vancouver controlled most of the first period play, the Avalanche got on the scoreboard first after Wojtek Wolski poked in a loose puck past Luongo. Paul Stastny and Milan Hejduk got the helpers on the goal.
ANOTHER: Stastny redirected a hard Hejduk pass on the powerplay to put the home team up by two in the middle frame. The line of Wolski-Stastny-Hejduk finished with six points and were a plus 3. Darcy Tucker had the third goal for the Avalanche in the third period.
CIRCLE: The Canucks dominated the faceoffs early, with a 71 per cent to 29 per cent edge over the Avs, and they ended the night with a 55 win percentage in the circle.
UP NEXT: Vancouver (0-2) will look for their first win when they return home Monday to raise the Northwest Division title banner. It will be their first game at G.M Place this season, as they play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
