THE BUZZ: It took four games but the Canucks (1-3) finally showed what they are capable of yesterday, dominating a tired Montreal team 7-1 at G.M. Place to record their first win this season.
H'A'NK: Henrik Sedin scored twice, once on the powerplay and another on a 2-on-0 breakaway, and added two more assists to lead Vancouver over the Canadiens and their strong contingent of fans, who began filing out of the Garage after the second period.
THE PRICE IS WRONG: Making his first ever start in Vancouver, the B.C.-born Carey Price allowed seven goals on 31 shots before getting yanked in the third period. Meanwhile, Roberto Luongo made 27 saves with one goal against to earn his first win of the season.
FIRSTS AND SECONDS: Ryan Kesler, Mason Raymond, and Steve Bernier all got their first goals of the year in the first period to put the home team up 3-0. While sporting a 5-1 lead in the third, Mikael Samuelsson and Alex Burrows both got their second tallies this season just 19 seconds apart to add insult to injury.
AV TALK: "I love the fact that we were rewarded for our effort," said coach Alain Vigneault. "Our guys kept their heads where it needed to be, which was the process on the ice and the process was great again tonight and we got the win."
MISMATCH: Chalk up another win for David over Goliath as the 5'11", 170-lbs Rick Rypien fought the 6'7", 241-lbs Hall Gill in the third period. 24 hours' Guts McTavish gives the decision to the much-smaller Rypien.
UP NEXT: Vancouver will get three days to celebrate their win before hosting the Dallas Stars this Sunday.
