IN THE DUB

It was another split weekend for the Giants who rocked the Prince George Cougars 8-0 last Friday, but fell to the Tri-City Americans 5-3 the next night after. Vancouver's three leading scorers - Craig Cunningham, J.T. Barnett and Canucks' prospect Kevin Connauton - led the way with a combined seven goals and 10 points over the two games. As for the Chilliwack Bruins, they dropped both their games this weekend, a 2-1 overtime loss to Medicine Hat and a 3-2 loss to Red Deer. The Bruins are currently eighth in the WHL Western Conference with only nine points, while the Giants are ranked third. Vancouver will play three games in three nights starting Friday at the Pacific Coliseum when they host the Everett Silvertips at 7:30 p.m. Chilliwack will play back-to-back games in Prince George Friday and Saturday.

HEATING UP

What a difference a week makes. With three wins in four games these past eight days, the Abbotsford Heat now sit fifth in the AHL Western Conference, only one point behind the second spot with two games in hand. They recorded their first franchise win, 4-2, last Tuesday against the Manitoba Moose, before collecting back-to-back victories against the Milwaukee Admirals this past Friday and Saturday. Kris Chucko leads the pack with four tallies and eight points. The Toronto Marlies are in town tonight and tomorrow (both games at 7:30 p.m.), before the Heat embark on a six-game roadtrip that starts in Grand Rapids on Friday.
