The owner of the financially troubled Phoenix Coyotes has agreed to sell the franchise to the NHL, it was reported yesterday.
The sale was announced late yesterday after talks between lawyers for Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes and the NHL were complete.
The sale still requires the approval of Judge Redfield T. Baum, who presided over the case for months, including a bitterly fought battle between the NHL and Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie.
It is expected that if the sale is approved, the NHL will look to sell the team to buyers willing to keep the team in Phoenix.
