Vancouver added another big name to their injury list yesterday, announcing that goaltender Roberto Luongo will be out indefinitely.
The Canucks captain suffered a hairline fracture in his rib against Toronto on Saturday, but continued to play the next two games.
He said that it gradually got worse against Detroit on Tuesday, but it’s a matter of dealing with the pain.
“I went through something similar a couple years ago and it took me about a week, a week and a half,” he said. “I’m hoping it’s going to be on the shorter side.”
Luongo did not travel with the team on their California road trip, which includes tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.
With the starter out, Andrew Raycroft will get the start while Cory Schneider, who was recalled yesterday, will serve as the backup.
Thanks to Anze Kopitar’s MVP-like season so far, the Kings had won four in a row prior to last night’s meeting with the Sharks.
They are also fighting for the top spot in the Western Conference, while the Canucks are 10th overall.
However, Vancouver could be getting some good news as defenceman Sami Salo was skating with the team during Wednesday’s practice and is probable for tonight.
