NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Goals don’t get much longer than the one Curtis Glencross tossed in Monday night in Nashville.
And you don’t usually hear someone credit a suspension for the result.
Shooting at an empty net from his own goal-line late in the third period of the 5-0 win, Glencross scored his sixth of the season from nearly 200 feet out while shorthanded and the Predators using a half-dozen attackers.
“I was kind of leaning like this at the goal-line, watching it go down there,” said Glencross, who cranked his body sideways as he described the bomb. The free shot looked familiar to the Flames forward, who served a three-game suspension a couple of weeks back for a hit on the New York Rangers’ Chris Drury.
“I told the coach on the bench that was from the practise and the bag skates when I was suspended in Toronto that we ended up doing,” Glencross said.
“We had coaches at one end, players at the other. We had to shoot it from our end all the way down. If it didn’t hit the net, we had to skate down and back, and if we hit the net the coaches skated down and back.
“That was our bag-skate drill. Gotta give credit to the assistant coaches on that one.”
