Calgary Flames fans thought it was a coup when GM Darryl Sutter found a way to keep Jarome Iginla, Robyn Regehr and Miikka Kiprusoff in the fold. How does that compare to what the Chicago Blackhawks managed by signing their big three - Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith - yesterday? Yes, the Blackhawks will have to use some fancy footwork with the salary cap in the coming years, and may have to essentially give away a few players when this season ends - Cam Barker? Patrick Sharp? Dustin Byfuglien? Cristobal Huet? Brian Campbell? - but yesterday's official announcement ensures they will be a force to be reckoned with for a long time.
User-controlled cam for HNIC
The CBC is going high-tech with a new user-controlled camera on its website for Hockey Night in Canada's telecast of the Boston Bruins-Montreal Canadiens tilt tonight. The All Access Camera, developed by Calgary's Immersive Media and sponsored by Chevrolet, is a circular camera smaller than a soccer ball with 11 lenses working simultaneously. Computer software will piece together the different views, giving online users a real-time 360-degree view of on-ice action. CBCSports.ca plans to use the high-tech camera during various games including the Winter Classic on New Year's Day and the NHL playoffs next spring.
