THE BUZZ: A poor showing by the Canucks Thursday resulted in their second consecutive loss as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Ottawa Senators, who are now winners of 11 straight.
CLEAN SHEET: Two days after Vancouver shooters were frustrated by a hot goaltender in Jaroslav Halak, Ottawa's Brian Elliott did his part to keep the Canucks baffled, stopping 29 of 30 shots for the win.
RAYZOR: In his first planned start since December 5, Andrew Raycroft made 18 saves in a losing effort and is still one win away from a milestone 100th career victory.
TRAILING AGAIN: An early penalty by the Canucks resulted in yet another early goal by the opposition, as Ottawa's Milan Michalek scored on the powerplay 1:34 into the game. The tally is only the 30th-ranked powerplay unit's fourth in the last 43 man-advantage opportunities. Jason Spezza doubled the lead late in the period to extend his goal scoring streak to eight games.
TOO LITTLE TOO LATE: Kyle Wellwood put the Canucks on the scoreboard with a late powerplay goal to ruin Elliott's shutout bid, but Chris Kelly added the empty netter for Ottawa just under a minute later.
NO MORE LEAD: With another pointless game, Henrik Sedin now trails Alex Ovechkin for the NHL points lead after the Washington forward registered two goals and an assist Thursday. Henrik, who only has two points in the last four games, is now two back with 78 points.
UP NEXT: A matinee game awaits the Canucks in Boston where they take on a struggling Bruins team, who have lost their last nine games. Vancouver's last win in Beantown came in 2003. Tim Thomas and the B's won 1-0 in their only meeting last season.
