The Vancouver Canucks called up Michael Grabner from the AHL after Mikael Samuelsson went down with an injury that is expected to keep him on the sidelines for two to three weeks.
Grabner, a 22-year-old from Austria, has 15 goals and 26 points in 38 games with the Manitoba Moose this season. He appeared in nine games with the Canucks as well, scoring two goals and adding three assists before breaking his ankle.
The Canucks also signed 2009 first rounder Jordan Schroeder to an entry-level contract on Wednesday.
Schroeder, who helped the United States win a gold medal at the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship in Saskatoon, had nine goals and 28 points in 37 games with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers of the NCAA this season.
The swift-skating centre had 13 goals and 45 points as a freshman.
Schroeder is expected to be assigned to the Moose but will be in Vancouver for a press conference Thursday.
