Floyd Mayweather Jr, who returns to the ring this week after nearly two years in retirement, credits a trip to the Bahamas with his mother for sparking his hotly anticipated comeback. The undefeated American, a former world champion at five different weights, will take on Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in a non-title welterweight bout on Saturday, his first fight since beating Britain's Ricky Hatton in December 2007.

DEVILS' ELIAS OUT FOR A WHILE

New Jersey Devils veteran Patrick Elias, entering his 13th season with the team, will be sidelined for three to six weeks with groin issues stemming from scar tissue which built up in his groin over the past four seasons. Elias, who had 78 points in 77 games with the Devils last year, underwent groin surgery during the 2005-06 campaign.

BOLT GETS HONOURS FOR PERFORMANCES

Jamaica will grant diplomatic privileges to triple Olympic and world champ sprinter Usain Bolt and name a highway after him, Prime Minister Bruce Golding said Tuesday. Golding said Bolt's performance for Jamaica had earned him the right to be called "ambassador" with full diplomatic privileges, including a diplomatic passport.
