Vancouver's Michael Janyk was third in the Champions Cup parallel slalom in Moscow, Russia. The exhibition event - to promote 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, pitted 21 skiers and three Russian champions against each other on a ramp 60 metres high, 36 metres wide and 210 metres long with 20 gates.
- PAIRS TAKE MEDALS
Ontario's Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue took the gold medals Sunday at the HomeSense Skate Canada International Grand Prix.
The pair scored a season-high 103.12 for their free dance and finished the event with a combined score of 204.38, winning the meet by almost 20 points.
Fellow Ontario skaters Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje claimed the bronze medals.
- ROCHETTE WINS GOLD
Joannie Rochette won the Skate Canada gold medal Saturday night with a total score of 182.90. Despite a bumpy long program performance, the Montreal native outlasted Americans Alissa Czisny and Mirai Nagasu for the gold.
- CHAN DISAPPOINTS
Olympic medal hopeful Patrick Chan finished sixth in the men's Skate Canada event this weekend, returning from a leg injury. He finished with a combined score of 198.77, falling three times on triple jump attempts in his long program.
- GROVES GRABS GOLD
Speed skater Kristina Groves won the gold medal in the Women's 1500m at the World Cup event in Hamar, Norway Sunday. It was Groves first individual victory of the season, as she finished with a time of 1:55.16.
- MAKOWSKY WINS
Lucas Makowsky captured his first career World Cup medal Saturday, taking the silver in the Men's 1500m event from Hamar, Norway. Makowsky finished with a time of 1:45.40 and was only beaten by American Shani Davis, who recorded the fastest 1500m time ever on European ice, to win the gold medal.
