Poor show in cross country

By BOB MACKIN

Devon Kershaw's tweet said it all: "Worst. Weekend. Ever. Good lord..."

The Sudbury, Ontario cross-country skier was 55th in the 15 kilometre world cup race in Kuusamo, Finland Sunday. Teammate Ivan Babikov of Canmore, Alta. was the top Canadian in 38th while Sara Renner had Canada's best 10 km female result in 39th. Renner and Rossland, B.C.'s George Grey arrived just in time for their Saturday races after flight delays. The world cup stop began the wrong way Thursday when Canadian coach Inge Braten suffered a broken hip.

Meanwhile, Alex Gough, Sam Edney and brothers Chris and Mike Moffat won Canada's first gold medal in team luge Sunday at the world cup event in Igls, Austria.
