Omischl places fifth

Kelowna's Steve Omischl was fifth Saturday and fourth Sunday in the freestyle aerials world cup in Changchun, China. Chinese women owned the podium Sunday while men won the top two spots. The world cup comes to Calgary on Jan. 10.

Biathlete Zina Kocher of Red Deer was fourth in women's pursuit in in Pokljuka, Slovakia on Sunday.

Two Russians and a German were on the podium. Drew Goldsack, also of Red Deer, won the Olympic trials cross-country sprint race Sunday in Canmore. Goldsack is on a comeback after missing a year due to ankle surgery. He battled flu to win the Sunday race.
