UFC's Foxy time again 0
UFC on FOX 3 went down in East Rutherford, N.J., and it was probably one of the best cards the network and the UFC have put together.
Heavyweight Lavar Johnson welcomed the viewers at home with a knockout over Pat "HD" Barry. Johnson showed once again that he is a big bad man with some vicious upper cuts. I'd love to see Johnson take on Ben Rothwell next.
Alan Belcher showed why he is a legit top contender in the middleweight division, when he TKOed the always-dangerous Rousimar Palhares in the first round. Belcher was able to swim in deep waters when Palhares got a hold of Belcher's leg and was working hard for the knee bar. However,
"The Talent" was able to pass the test and throw down some vicious ground-and-pound to secure the victory.
I would have to say that Belcher is in the title conversation but he may need one more signature win to secure that No. 1 contender's spot. I'd love to see him against Brian Stann.
Next, Johny Hendricks squeaked out a split decision win over Josh Koscheck. This was an exciting fight to watch and an even more interesting fight to score. I personally had Hendricks with the win, but I know others thought maybe Koscheck did enough. With the win, Hendricks has probably put himself
in line for the winner of Carlos Condit vs. Georges St-Pierre, which has been eyeballed for Nov. 15 at UFC 154 in Montreal. The real question is, should Hendricks wait that long? I know B.C.'s own Rory MacDonald could be a nice opponent.
Nate Diaz surprised me with his dominant win over Jim Miller. Diaz's striking has improved and his ground game has always been stellar. Diaz was able to secure the guillotine choke for the second-round submission win. Nate's next opponent should be Anthony Pettis for the No. 1 contender spot for Benson Henderson's 155-pound title, but Diaz has expressed that he would like to take some time off and "chill."
The Lion and the Mamba Impress
A shout-out to local fighters in Gary "St.Lion" Mangat and Kultar "Black Mamba" Gill. Both men fought at Super Fight League in India and both came up with very impressive victories. Mangat was able to throw on a rear naked choke for the first round submission and Gill viciously KOed his opponent in the first round as well. You have to believe that was a career highlight for both to be able to fight in India.
