Caps pull out a 2-0 victory

By BOB MACKIN, 24 HOURS

- THE BUZZ:

The Vancouver Whitecaps snapped a six-game winless streak Sunday with a 2-0 win over visiting Miami FC in United Soccer Leagues' First Division play.

- CHIN AND CHUCK:

Whitecap Charles Gbeke headed a sailing ball from Gordon Chin into the upper right corner in the 80th minute. Gbeke scored an insurance marker 10 minutes later on Randy Edwini-Bonsu's breakaway pass.

- HANNIGAN AND AGAIN:

Blues' goalkeeper Pat Hannigan fearlessly ran off his line on several occasions. He kept his squad even by stopping Marcus Haber's point blank shot in the 19th minute and a 25-yard blast by Chris Pozniak in the 37th.

- NOLLY AND GOLLY:

Tanzanian international midfielder Nizar Khalfan made the save of the game to help Jay Nolly preserve his shutout on a Paulo Araujo header in the 62nd minute.

- SLUMP BUMPED:

The 8-9-7 Whitecaps cling to the seventh and final playoff spot with six games left. They host the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday.
