Emmanuel Adebayor scored his third goal in as many Premier League matches to give Manchester City a 1-0 win at Portsmouth yesterday, maintaining the club's perfect start to the season.
The Togo international headed in Gareth Barry's corner from close range in the 30th minute to earn City's second away win -- as many as achieved all last season.
"My confidence is very high," Adebayor said. "(City) believed in my strength, they believed in my ability. At the moment I'm just working hard for the team and for the club.
"We have played three games and won three games so we're very happy. We want to keep on going and keep on enjoying ourselves on the pitch."
City is now only three points behind league leaders Chelsea and Tottenham with a game in hand.
Also yesterday, Everton got off the mark, collecting its first points of the season by rallying to beat Wigan 2-1.
BORDEAUX STILL BEST
Defending champion Bordeaux retained its lead in the French Ligue 1 standings following a scoreless draw at Marseille last night.
Runner-up to Bordeaux last season, Marseille ended Laurent Blanc's team impressive run of 14 straight wins in the French League but was unable to find the net at the Stade Velodrome.
Bordeaux now tops the standings ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and seven-time champion Lyon.
All three teams are unbeaten this season and have 10 points from four games but Bordeaux has a better goal difference. Marseille is in fifth place with eight points.
Also yesterday, Paris Saint-Germain clinched its third consecutive win 3-0 over Lille.
SEVILLA OVERPOWERED
Juanma Mata and Pablo Hernandez both scored in the second half as Valencia beat 10-man Sevilla 2-0 yesterday, while Roberto Soldado scored a hat-trick as Getafe romped to a 4-1 win over Racing Santander to open its Spanish league campaign.
Elsewhere yesterday, Malaga defeated Atletico Madrid 3-0, Athletic Bilbao won 1-0 against Espanyol, Mallorca beat Xerez 2-0, Osasuna drew 1-1 with Villarreal and Almeria played Valladolid to a scoreless draw.
