Caps under plenty of pressure

By BOB MACKIN

- THE BUZZ:

The Vancouver Whitecaps need to limit the Austin City squad and then say goodbye, Cleveland if they want to have any chance to defend their United Soccer Leagues' First Division crown.

- IMPACTED:

The Whitecaps gave up a 90th minute goal Wednesday in Montreal as the Impact registered a 1-0 win. Vancouver, which fell to 9-10-9, is home Sunday at 4 p.m. in Swangard Stadium when the expansion 10th place Austin Aztex make their second visit in less than two weeks. The Whitecaps hung on to edge feisty Austin 3-2 on Sept. 2. The Aztex were eliminated that night, so they'll be playing for pride and next year's jobs on Sunday.

- NEED A POINT:

The Caps are a comfortable eight points ahead of Miami FC Blues and need just one point to clinch a playoff berth, but the Blues have one game in hand.

- SEEING STARS:

The Whitecaps finish their regular season on Sept. 18 when last-place Cleveland makes its first visit to Swangard Stadium. The teams drew 2-2 and 0-0 when they met earlier in the season in Ohio.
