Whitecaps win wild one

By BOB MACKIN

- THE BUZZ:

Gordon Chin led the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 2-1 comeback win over the Austin Aztex Sunday in USL-1 play at Swangard Stadium.

- MESSIN' TEXANS:

The expansion Aztex pierced the Whitecaps' defence on numerous occasions until substitute Jarious Holmes broke the tie in the 51st minute.

- HABER HEADS:

Three minutes after Austin's Gifton Noel-Williams was ejected for kicking Kenold Versailles, Chin found Marcus Haber in the Austin penalty area for an 80th minute header goal. Chin scored the winner with a blast off the underside of the crossbar in the 86th.

- AUSTIN CITY LIMITED:

The 10-10-9 Whitecaps await the last-place Cleveland City Stars to end the regular season on Friday.

- BERTHED:

The defending champion Whitecaps clinched a playoff berth by default two days earlier when the Miami FC Blues were 2-1 losers to the Charleston Battery.
