Molson Canadian Hockey House will be the size of five hockey rinks and feature the Barenaked Ladies, hockey legend Jean Beliveau, chef Wolfgang Puck and a bounty of beer.
But it won’t be cheap to get into the biggest corporate hospitality venue of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
A day pass for the 81,000-square foot temporary pavilion is $500. Eight-person, 17-day boxes will be $8,500.
“For those that don’t have a ticket, this will be the next best place,” said producer Jordan Bitove of Toronto’s Vision Co. “Whether it’s Super Bowl, Formula 1, Ryder Cup, we’re cheap, we’re actually a deal, and we’re all inclusive at that price.”
The $15 million Molson Canadian Hockey House is the anchor of Concord Pacific’s celebration zone at northeast False Creek. Neighbours will include pavilions promoting Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan. Olympic hockey venue General Motors Place is a 300-metre walk.
Hockey House will open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. during the Games with capacity for 2,000 to watch Olympic hockey and other events on 40-foot high definition TV screens. The building will include lounges for Hockey Canada, International Ice Hockey Federation and Canada’s men’s and women’s teams.
Fans can meet hockey greats like Paul Coffey, Cam Neely, Trevor Linden and Stan Smyl, enjoy hockey-themed comedy and karaoke by Brent Butt and Sean Cullen. Barenaked Ladies’ drummer Tyler Stewart is the executive director of entertainment. Bitove said BNL will play Feb. 13 or 14.
