One of speedskating's giants won't seek a fourth gold medal at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
Holland's Marianne Timmer collided with China's Jing Yu in a Friday 500 metre race before a sea of orange fans at Heerenveen, Netherlands. Timmer broke left heel bones and tore an ankle ligament. She won two gold medals at Nagano 1998 and one in Torino 2006.
Christine Nesbitt of London, Ont., continued to collect medals. She won silver on Saturday, just ahead of Ottawa's Kristina Groves, in a 1,500m race. Nesbitt won Sunday's 1,000m event, her third gold in two weekends.
Francois-Louis Tremblay won 500 m gold Saturday at the last pre-Olympic world cup for short-track speedskating in Marquette, Mich. Fellow Quebecer Charles Hamelin got 1,500m bronze, behind Seattle's Apolo Anton Ohno and South Korean Lee Jung-su. Kalyna Roberge (silver) and Marianne St-Gelais (bronze) joined 500m winner Wang Meng of China on the podium. On Sunday, Canada's men's team won the 5,000m relay while the women got bronze.

Kelowna's Craig Buntin and Meagan Duhamel of Lively, Ont. didn't finish their Skate America routine in Lake Placid, N.Y. because Duhamel fell on her shoulder and hit her head on the ice. Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo of China, two-time Olympic bronze medalists, won the Saturday free skate.
Austrian Reinfried Herbst skied to victory Sunday in the men's slalom in Levi, Finland. Whistler downhiller Mike Janyk was the top Canadian in 14th.
