This Bud's for Vancouver 2010
Horse-pulled flowered float hypes wazzup in FebruaryBy BOB MACKIN, 24 hours
The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics are getting a promotional boost from an unlikely source. The famous Budweiser clydesdale horse team will pull the Anheuser-Busch Olympic themed float during the 121st Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif., on New Year's Day. The 45-foot-long, Quest for the Best-themed float features a "wintry scene" with six 12-foot-high pine trees and thousands of roses, orchids and other flowers in a variety of colours. It'll carry United States Olympic legends like five-time gold medal speedskater Bonnie Blair and silver and bronze medal-winning figure skater Michelle Kwan plus six athletes hoping to qualify for Vancouver 2010. Anheuser-Busch, which was acquired by Belgian/Brazilian brewing conglomerate InBev in 2008, is a U.S. Olympic Committee sponsor. Competitor MolsonCoors is the official brewer of the 2010 Games. The parade begins at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT on Friday and is broadcast to 200 territories around the world. The 96th Rose Bowl Game kicks off at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT and features the seventh-ranked Oregon Ducks against the number eight Ohio State Buckeyes. Oregon's roster includes sophomore running back Jide Shinaba of Victoria, B.C. and freshman linebacker Bo Lokombo of Abbotsford, B.C. |
